Frequently Asked Questions
What is churn rate?
Churn rate is the percentage of customers who stop doing business with you during a given period. If you start the month with 1,000 customers and lose 50, your monthly churn rate is 5%. It is the inverse of retention rate.
What is a good churn rate?
For SaaS businesses, 3-5% annual churn is excellent, 5-7% is acceptable. Monthly churn under 1% is strong. For consumer subscriptions, 5-10% monthly churn is common. Lower churn always means more sustainable growth.
How do I reduce churn?
Identify why customers leave through exit surveys, improve onboarding to demonstrate value quickly, provide proactive customer success outreach, build features customers request, offer incentives for annual commitments, and address support issues faster.
